Victorian Corset Workshop

Who: Intermediate sewing skills required.

Class is limited to 6 people.

Cost: $183.75 ($175 plus $8.75 sales tax) – Includes Workshop Fee and Complete Corset Kit. Kits available in white herringbone with contrasting trim. Trim colors available are: pink, blue, aqua, lavender and peach.

Register before Friday December 24th for your choice of trim color. Registrations after December 25th are not guaranteed choice of trim color and will be limited to the colors on hand. If minimum enrollment isn't reached by November 9th, class will be cancelled and fees will be refunded.

Choose your trim color:

A hands on sewing workshop in which students learn to fit and construct an historically accurate Victorian corset (for the period 1837 to 1890) using Laughing Moon Mercantile’s #100 Women’s Victorian Underwear. The techniques, materials, and skills learned may be applied to other corset styles and boned garments.

Topics covered during the workshop include:

  • Coutil, linings, and fashion fabric choices
  • Busks and boning, from whale bone to spring steel
  • Fitting and construction techniques
  • Flossing and trimming
  • Lacing, wearing, and caring for a corset

Student supply list:

  • Sewing machine with bobbin, regular and zipper foot, in good working order
  • Size 14 or 16 machine needles, bring extras
  • Tracing paper and tape
  • Some method of marking fabric - pen, pencil, chalk, or wheel and marking paper
  • Thread, scissors (both fabric and paper), pins
  • Basic sewing supplies including hand sewing needles
  • Thread to match your fabric
